Austrian buckwheat has been produced by the Schalke family for two generations on their ecological farm in Ilz, east of Graz, and now Rainer and his brother Franz have taken over the family production. Buckwheat is a flowering plant of the rhubarb family, which originated in Asia. The gluten-free nature of buckwheat has made it a very popular cereal in recent years.
